Namaste and Welcome to Sarjan Arts
Hi, my name is Bhumika and welcome to Sarjan Arts, “Sarjan” in Sanskrit means creation, and that’s exactly what Sarjan Arts is all about: a space dedicated to beauty, service, and creation OR (the wonderful act of bringing ideas to life.)
A little about me… I live in Gujarat, a western state in India, and am formally trained as an educator for children with special needs. I worked in this profession for a while, however, I wasn’t content with what I was doing — I was frustrated with the “one-size-fits-all” education system and something just felt missing inside.
In 2014, I left my job and decided to explore the question: what makes me truly come alive?
After, I started volunteering for an organization rooted in the value of service as meditation. I explored the practice of giving without expectation as a way of inner transformation. One of the most important things I learned is that there are thousands of ways to serve and no act of service is “big” or “small,” as long as it is delivered with love and joy.
Through this organization, I was led to a community of like-minded souls in Ahmedabad that held weekend retreats in the spirit of Maitri (loving kindness) and noble friendship. So moved by the generosity and outpouring of kindness I received as a participant, I decided to become a volunteer to share my gratitude forward.
For the next few years, I volunteered at every retreat, which deepened my self-understanding, widened my circle of noble friends, and helped me find a greater sense of purpose that felt missing in my professional work.
I started to think, “How can I best serve?”
Tapping into a lifelong creative streak, I began making small gifts (e.g., decorative quote cards, fridge magnets, stone paperweights, bookmarks), as well as personal care products (e.g., soaps, lotion, body butter, foot salves, lip balm) free of harmful substances. After assembling a catalogue of offerings, I shared my creations through personal networks with the idea of supporting myself through my heArt work.
Over the years of creating and gifting like this, my work has reached a lot of people, touched their hearts, and made them smile. Sometimes I don’t even know who the receiver is, and they don’t even know who the gift came from! While fun and personally fulfilling, creating like this is also a deeply healing process for me, as it helps me express and explore my deepest feelings.
I know now what makes me come alive and am ready to share my work with the world.
Welcome to Sarjan Arts. Feel at home.
